//Historic pieces of the Revue Cinema marquee, along the Roncesvalles sidewalk. (Canon 30d)
Yesterday the Revue Cinema marquee collapsed, crashing down to the very sidewalk generations of Torontonians have tread, alone and with loved ones, on their way in for a night at the movies.
After hearing about it on blogTO, I rushed over to see the scene for myself. It was almost 5pm and by then most of the unsalvageable marquee had been cleared into a dumpster, while the 1930's "R" and "Revue" lettering lay salvaged on the sidelines.
For months, the theatre has been closed while the saddened community fought to raise the funds to save it... now it seems this fight is over... the final blow delivered. Roncesvalles will never quite be the same.
I'm glad, at least, to have shared an evening or two there. Click here for a past vision of The Revue, as seen on DoubleCrossed.
